Abujamad, a Maoist stronghold, will be liberated by the end of 2025

Raipur: Security officials have drawn up a blueprint to take control of Abujamad, a Naxal stronghold spanning 4,000 square kilometers from south Bastar in Chhattisgarh to Gadchiroli in Maharashtra, by the end of December 2025.

The draft is likely to be placed before the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) for approval in the first week of January, a senior police official told this newspaper on Tuesday, requesting to be quoted.

According to sources, the anti-insurgency strategy has been completely revised in the blueprint.

“Security forces will encircle Abujamad from all sides before launching a large-scale counter-insurgency operation to flush out Maoists from the area”, said a police official.

A military training base is going to be set up at a strategic location inside Abujamad which will lead to the sanitization of vast areas of the region, said a police official.

Abujamad is the only non-survey area in the country and is reportedly used by top Maoist leaders as their safe haven.

The security forces have begun to advance into the interior of Abujamad by establishing Forward Operating Bases (FOBs), which ensure that logistical supplies to the security forces are not disrupted.

“We are entering Abuzhmad from the north, south, east and west to completely liberate the Maoist influence zone,” said a senior police officer posted in Narayanpur district of South Bastar.

Security forces have launched three major counter-insurgency operations in Abujamad in the past four months in which around 75 Maoists have been killed.

Top-level officers of police and paramilitary forces will be asked to visit Bastar once in a fortnight and spend two or three days at FOBs in key Maoist areas to plan and supervise anti-Naxal operations in specific areas, sources said.

According to sources, police officers of the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) will be given the task of monitoring the movement of Maoists in their respective areas according to the new strategy.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has already announced that by March 2026, left-wing extremism will be completely eradicated from the country.
