Wanparthi police busted a robbery on the national highway in Pebbir, Telangana

The robbery gang was arrested on Sunday (December 22, 2024) by the Wanaparthi district police four days ago on National Highway-44 at Pebbir, about 160 km south of Hyderabad.

Four members of the gang have been arrested but two others are still absconding. Bahukshetra-2 IGP V. Sharing the details of the incident, Satyanarayana said, on the morning of December 18, the police received information that a family had been beaten up and robbed by unknown persons on the roadside in Pebbir.

Arriving at the scene of the incident, police G. Anganwadi employee of Jagtyal district. Rajni (54) came to know about the incident when he was returning home after a pilgrimage to Tirupati and Arunachalam with his family and friends. The woman had stopped the vehicle at Pebbair along with her family and friends at around 2 o’clock in the night on January 17 and 18.

After attending nature’s call, they relaxed in the car and fell asleep. After seeing the passengers sleeping, the gang members opened the trunk of the vehicle and left it at the spot. However, after finding no valuables in the bag, they returned to the car, said the IGP.

This time too, the gang broke the window of the vehicle and beat the passenger inside and forcibly took away the 13.5 tola gold jewelery worn by the woman and fled the scene. After collecting information from the women, the police have increased patrolling in the district. During a regular vehicle check at Rangapur Chowk, the police stopped a vehicle and arrested four people who were behaving suspiciously.

The quartet confessed to the crime when grilled. “Initially we registered a case of dacoity but after the persons in custody confirmed that two more of their accomplices were involved in the crime, we changed the section of the law to dacoity,” Wanparthi SP Ravula Giridhar said.
