On December 21, the United Nations General Assembly celebrated the inaugural World Day of Meditation. To mark the occasion, the Permanent Mission of India organized a program at the United Nations headquarters with Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, founder of the Art of Living Foundation and leading spiritual leader, presiding over the gathering.

The event began at the United Nations and concluded with a live session led by Gurudev from the World Trade Center in New York. Millions joined the live stream, highlighting the widespread interest in meditation as a tool for contemplation and inner stillness.

Speaking before the convention, Shankar said. Meditation is a journey from knowing through thinking to realizing what you know. It helps people shift from overthinking to experiencing the present moment. Meditation is not passivity; It supports a balanced, dynamic and calm state of mind.”

According to a press release, the event brought together various groups including farmers, corporate employees, military personnel, health workers, students and housewives. Educational institutions for blind children and prisons also participated, highlighting the wide reach of the initiative.

Public figures, global leaders, and industry professionals have embraced the effort, recognizing the relevance of meditation in today’s fast-paced world.
