Malankara Church Controversy: Tension at Mulanthuruthi Church in Ernakulam, Kerala during festival

A dispute between the Jacobite and Orthodox factions of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church spilled onto the streets on Friday night (December 20, 2024) with police arresting a man from Mulanthuruthi, Ernakulam, Kerala, who was allegedly part of a group. Confronted the police.

The police tried to prevent possible violence during the procession which was taken out as a church festival on Friday at Mulanthuruthi Marthaman Church.

The two factions have complained about the violation of the agreement on the organization of the festival.

The police have reportedly identified around a dozen people who clashed with the police team at the church site.

The historic church has been at the center of controversial claims in the ongoing church controversy.
