Kakinada Collector Rs. 200 crore plan for ocean erosion

Kakinada:Kakinada district collector S Shan Mohan has sent a proposal to the state government at a cost of Rs 200 crore to find a permanent solution to the problem of sea erosion in U Kothapalli mandal. This includes the construction of retaining walls as in the state of Kerala.

Shaan Mohan told Deccan Chronicle that the central government has a provision to sanction funds to control coastal erosion. He said that almost five villages of U. Kothapalli mandal are affected by sea erosion.

The collector said that a detailed project report has been prepared for modernization of Yeleru reservoir, repair and reconstruction of dilapidated and broken bridges. The modernization of Yeleru reservoir will cost Rs 800 crore.

He said that a new bridge will be constructed to connect Machilipatnam port to Kakinada port via Yetimoga at a cost of 235 crores. After the completion of the project, the traffic congestion in Kakinada city may be reduced.

Regarding the broken bridge at Appannapalem between Jaggampet and Prathipadu, Shanmohan said that the bridge will be reconstructed at a cost of 13 crores. Another bridge will be constructed at Surampalem N Gollaprulu mandal at a cost of Rs 4 crore.

Asked about the Kakinada Special Economic Zone (KSEZ) issue raised by former Finance Minister and Telugu Desam Politburo member Yanamala Ramakrishnadu, the Collector discussed with the management of the companies established in the KSEZ that the livelihood issues of the fishermen would be considered.
