The Rachakonda Police Commissionerate’s annual crime report for 2024 shows a 4% increase in overall crime in the Commissionerate’s jurisdiction. Total cases increased from 27,586 in 2023 to 28,626 this year.
Robbery incidents decreased by 6% from 125 in 2023 to 118 in 2024. There was a significant decrease of 17% in day and night house robberies, which fell from 767 to 633. However, homicides fell by 11% from 66 to 73. . Kidnapping cases including missing minors increased by 10 percent from 420 to 463. The cases of rape with false promise of marriage increased by 17 percent from 327 to 384. Death due to dowry has increased by 13 percent. In 18 cases. On the other hand, cases of domestic violence fell by 23% from 1,582 to 1,222, while cases of molestation and POCSO violations fell by 10%, from 1,061 to 953.
Commissioner G. Sudhir Babu said that 2024 will be marked by their unwavering commitment to justice, public safety, and community welfare, with a special emphasis on VQT – visual policing, rapid response and integration of technology to combat increasing crimes, especially those affecting Women, weaker sections and victims across society.
“In alignment with the Telangana State Government’s mission, we have intensified our efforts against drug abuse and smuggling. In a coordinated effort, we have arrested 521 NDPS/drug offenders this year and seized drugs worth Rs 88.25 crore and kept effective surveillance on 159 drug peddlers,” he said. said
“The case load of 33,084 cases was addressed with a commendable 76% resolution rate which is the highest in the state. Telangana has the highest conviction rate for major crimes at 64% for the sixth consecutive year,” the commissioner said.
Traffic management and road safety
The 12.3% reduction in road accidents and 12.21% reduction in deaths underlines the proactive approach of the Commissionerate in traffic management. “Efforts covering a vast area of 5,122 square kilometers along five national highways included public awareness campaigns, strict enforcement of the Motor Vehicle Act and multi-stakeholder coordination,” the commissioner said.
He said the introduction of certified traffic marshals and mega traffic awareness rally played a decisive role in these achievements.
Crimes against women
In a significant development, reported crimes against women have decreased by 9% in 2024. SHE teams and trust centres, along with intensive patrolling of vulnerable areas, promoted a safe environment. This year, incidents of sexual assault and POCSO violations fell by 10%, while incidents of domestic violence fell by 13%.
Cybercrime shows a boom
The Rachakonda Cyber Crime Unit registered 4,458 cases this year as against 2,562 last year, a 42 per cent increase. In 2024, the unit helped recover ₹ 22 crore to victims of cyber fraud. Cybercrime awareness programs focused on fake news, social engineering, and online reputation management were conducted in colleges, IT firms, and communities to increase public awareness.
Property and organized crime
Property crime has decreased by 10 percent this year. Efforts to combat organized crime included busting child trafficking rackets, rescuing 15 children, and cracking cases involving interstate chain snatchers and notorious criminals.
