CISF denies reports of security failure during December 19 parliamentary debate

CISF Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Shrikant Kishore said the force acted appropriately and according to established protocols during the incident.

The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) strongly denied any lapse in handling the clash inside Parliament near Makardwar Gate on Monday December 19 that resulted in injuries to BJP MPs Pratap Sarangi and Mukesh Rajput.

CISF Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Shrikant Kishore said the force acted appropriately and according to established protocols during the incident. “There was no lapse on the part of the CISF during the clash,” he insisted.

He clearly informed the media during a briefing that “no inquiry” into the incident is being conducted by the CISF nor has the force been asked to do so.
Sarangi was seriously injured on his forehead while Rajput fainted due to high blood pressure during the encounter. A ruckus broke out at Makardwar entrance before the meeting of the House at 11 am.

A group of BJP MPs had gathered to protest the Congress’ alleged disrespect to the founder of the Constitution, Dr BR Ambedkar. As Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi approached, he tried to walk out of the gathering, leading to a scuffle.

Sarangi, a 70-year-old MP from Balasore Odisha, claimed that Rahul pushed Mukesh Rajput, causing both MPs to fall. Sarangi’s forehead and knee were injured in the incident. Later they were admitted to ICU of Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital. The BJP has accused Rahul Gandhi of physical aggression and termed his actions as “thugs”. In response, Congress MPs filed a complaint against Rahul alleging harassment by three BJP MPs.
