Three-year-old Chetna has been trapped in a borewell in Rajasthan since Monday, the hours ticking by excruciatingly and her hopes of survival dwindling as rescuers race against time to get her out.
Rescuers have not been able to send food or water to a child who fell into a narrow 150 feet borewell while playing in her father’s farm in Kotputli-Behror district.
As the rescue operation continues for the fourth day, the hope of the girl’s survival is diminishing.
Initially, the rescuers tried to pull the girl out using an iron ring tied to a rope, but all efforts failed.
After repeated attempts for two days without any result, a piling machine was brought to dig a hole parallel to the borewell on Wednesday morning.
“…. Now a horizontal tunnel will be made, through which the experts will reach the girl,’ said Sarund SHO Mohammad Imran.
Earlier in the day, the SHO said the rescue operation was likely to end on Thursday. However, the rescuers were disappointed when the experts could not go to the parallel pit till evening.
Dholi Devi and others are constantly praying for Chetna’s welfare amid continuous rescue operations by NDRF and SDRF teams with the help of local police and administration.
The SHO said that all efforts were made to get the girl out, but the borewell was narrow and all the efforts were in vain as the technology failed to yield results. A medical team with an ambulance has reached the spot.
Kotputli-Bahror District Collector Kalpana Aggarwal reached the village on Wednesday night to inquire about the situation.
She said that rescue operations are continuing. A lot of preparation had to be done to bring the piling machine to the field.
