the actor Vivek Oberoi He recalled a story about an interaction he had with an old man who may or may not have been real. He said that the incident happened when he went to the southern part of the country a year after the 2004 tsunami to help with relief work. Stating that she was going through a difficult time personally and professionally, the mother suggested that she devote herself to the welfare of others.
Dr. Vivek reflected on his spiritual experiences during that time in a program that appeared on Jai Madan’s YouTube channel. He said, ‘There is a famous temple there. I had a very strange experience. I was very worried, mentally. I had problemsโฆ I pitched a tent among the survivors and stayed with them. I also picked up a bit of Tamil. Someone told me to go to the temple; i did I met an old man there with a white beard. He was wearing only a dhoti. He called me.โ

Vivek continued, โHe started talking to me in highly polished English. I was confused, because he was sitting in the corner of the temple with nothing behind him. He sat me next to him, and he looked at my face. He said, ‘You are very anxious, you are passing through a time of misfortune, that is why you have been sent to this temple. You would face huge financial loss, but you are blessed. The money you are about to lose is spent on relief work here. This is your work, and you will reap the rewards.โ
The old man gave some instructions to Vivek, and the actor went to follow them. When he came back, the old man was gone. โI asked everyone, the watchman and other people, where the old man had gone. They said, ‘Which old man? There was no one here. is empty’. I was shocked.” Vivek said he wasn’t sure if the man was real or not. “For me, he’s like God,” he said later in the interview, adding that he was making deals worth thousands of crores. In the same interview, Vivek recounted another story, where he asked for an opportunity to go to the temple and serve. Moments later, as she was leaving the temple, a man approached her and warned her about a child prostitution ring. Vivek investigates and discovers that many girls are confined in a small room. “I was angry,” he said, adding that the experience inspired him to start the foundation.
