Sitapur:

Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak has directed immediate action after a video showing sterilization of women being performed in the labor room of Hargaon Community Health Center in Sitapur went viral on social media.

Taking serious note of the incident, Health Minister Pathak has instructed the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Sitapur to investigate and take disciplinary action.

After that instruction, the CMO dismissed the superintendent of the community health center and withheld one month’s salary and demanded an explanation within three days.

“Furthermore, requesting an explanation about the involvement of obstetricians and gynecologists, their salaries were withheld for one month. Both a staff nurse and a ward attendant were transferred from the centre, with a one-month salary suspension and a request for an explanation. Each was released,” Pathak said in a post in Hindi on X.

An FIR has also been registered against the two trainee pharmacists involved in further legal proceedings, the minister said.

The Deputy Chief Minister has directed the Chief Minister to submit a detailed report within four days.

He said that the incident was a serious violation of women’s honor and dignity and assured that strict departmental action would be taken after receiving the report.

“For us, motherhood is sacred and no party guilty of this unforgivable and unfortunate incident will be spared,” he said.
