Trying to stop farmers in various ways is reprehensible, Rahul Gandhi | India news

Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, on Friday condemned the “tear gas attack on protesting farmers to prevent them from entering Delhi”.

Gandhi said, “The peasants want to come to Delhi and put their demands before the government and express their grievances”. β€œIt is reprehensible to fire tear gas on them and try to stop them in various ways. The government should listen to their demands and problems seriously, said Gandhi.

He said, ‘The suffering of farmers can be estimated from the fact that every hour in the country one farmer is forced to commit suicide. “The country has not forgotten the martyrdom of more than 700 farmers in the first Kisan movement due to extreme insensitivity of the Modi government,” the Congress MP said.

Addressing a press conference at the AICC headquarters on Friday, Congress MP and General Secretary Randeep Singh Surjewala said: β€œThe Modi government said two things in Parliament. When the agriculture minister was asked whether he would legislate to guarantee MSP, he dodged the question. When asked whether the farmers will get relief from debt, he did not agree. This shows the intention of the Modi government.

‘Farmers who provide food have been stopped by barricades, nails and wires. Narendra Modi has time to watch movies but no time to meet farmers,’ he said.
