There is still no consensus among farmers’ unions, SKM sought to meet with President Murmu Chandigarh news

Even after two meetings, after not being able to reach an agreement on presenting a united front in the farmers’ movement, the United Farmers’ Front (Political) has requested a meeting with the President of India to discuss the problems of the farmers and the ongoing movement.

Addressing the media after Tuesday’s meeting, SKM leader Premsingh Bhangu said, โ€œWe have taken the call for unity positively. A committee of SKM held a meeting in Patiala on December 21. The meeting was positive. It has been decided to continue this process of seeking unity. The intention is positive from both sides. We are considering Condition of Jagjit Singh Dallewal And will continue to work for unity. However, this does not happen with just one meeting.โ€

Bhangu said SKM has requested a meeting with president Draupadi Murmu to discuss farmers’ issues. ‘We have asked for a time to meet in the first week of January. SKM’s delegation will meet him. If he is not available, the Union Agriculture Minister should meet him. We are concerned about the situation in Punjab. Law and order situation may arise in Punjab. This issue should be taken up quickly.”

According to BhangutSKM (political) will decide later whether to participate in the December 30 Punjab bandh called by SKM (Non-Political) and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha (KMM), which are protesting at the border. The organization has announced to hold a public meeting in Moga on January 9.

Bhangu slammed both the central and state governments and said Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, who advocated for farmers in February, had failed to address the issue. โ€œEven his cabinet colleagues are nowhere to be seen. They have not even gone to the place of hunger strike,’ he said.

The farmer leader expressed concern about Dallewal’s health and said, ‘It is their decision to fast to death. This is their prerogative. But we are concerned and worried about his health. He is a senior leader. Farmers need him. “

Farmer leader Nirbhaisingh Dhudike recalled that three agricultural laws were repealed after a long agitation. He said, ‘Four years later, the central government has again sent a proposal to the states and instructed them to pass and pass the law in a new form, but we will not allow that to happen.

Dhudike said that the process of unity is continuing. โ€œThere is no lack of effort on our part. We have received a letter from KMM leader Saravan Singh Pandher. We had meetings. As far as initiative is concerned, there is no barrier. He was also with us in the movement of Dallewal (2021). But it would not be logical for us to go there. They have our support. “

SKM (Political) and KMM held a meeting in Patiala on December 21. However, no announcement was made to form a united front. All eyes are on these farmer organizations to see if they can unite for a common cause.

After the meeting, SKM leader Jagmohan Singh Ugrahan said, ‘We have not declared unity. But that doesn’t mean we don’t support Dallewal. We have announced our support to Dallewal. The decision of the United Front will be made by SKM at the national level. We will convey our feelings to them after today’s meeting.”
