With the state government’s flagship health scheme, Makkalai Thedi Maruthubam (MTM), crossing the coverage of two crore people, Chief Minister MK Stalin on Thursday called a milestone beneficiary at his residence and handed over a medical kit containing tablets for two months.

Sundarambal, 55, met. Later, he met 60-year-old Vasantha of the same village and asked her about physiotherapy treatment under the scheme.
Ms. Vasant told the Chief Minister that she experienced tremors in her hands, and felt better after the treatment. Mr. Stalin encouraged her to continue with the physiotherapy sessions. He then left for Erode for a two-day visit.
The scheme provides comprehensive home-based health services for hypertension and diabetes across the state. Launched on August 5, 2021 by Mr. Stalin in Krishnagiri district, it will benefit people above 45 years of age. Physiotherapy treatment is also provided to the patients.
The scheme covers 385 rural blocks with 8,713 health sub-centres, and 21 corporations with 460 urban primary health centers in the state. Health Service Aruna and others were present.
“No other scheme like MTM has been implemented across the world. Hence, the UN Inter-Agency Task Force Award for 2024 was awarded to the State Health Department…,” Mr. Subramanian said in Erode.
Addressing media persons, the minister said that MTM has benefited two crore people of the state, and the beneficiaries have repeatedly availed of its services. More than one crore people with high blood pressure, 49.45 lakh people with diabetes and 44.28 lakh people with high blood pressure and diabetes have received medicine under this scheme.
Additionally, 5.40 lakh people received palliative care and 7.25 lakh, physiotherapy treatment, he added.
The minister said that 14,000 employees are involved in this scheme and Chief Minister MK Stalin is continuously monitoring its implementation. He said that seven lakh people of Erode district have benefited from this initiative.
Criticizing AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami’s scheme, Mr. Subramanian said that 1,700 Amma clinics were started during the previous AIADMK government, each without a doctor and a nurse. Moreover, these clinics have been set up under the National Health Mission and not funded by the state, he pointed out.
