The rural police are deploying PITNDPS as a preventive measure to prevent drug-related incidents

As the Ernakulam Rural Police continues its crackdown on drug trafficking and related crimes, 1,820 cases have been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and 1,980 people have been arrested during the 10-month period from January. By November this year.

During that period, around 260 kg of ganja and 2.5 kg of MDMA were seized. Thadiittaparambu police have registered a case in which 100 kg of recovered ganja has been recovered. 11 people have been arrested in this connection. Operation Clean, the anti-drug campaign of the police launched by District Superintendent of Police (Ernakulam Rural) Vaibhav Saxena, has played an important role in enforcing it strictly throughout the year.

Rural police have increasingly called for the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PITNDPS) Act as an effective deterrent to curb drug abuse. Till November, 12 people have been arrested under the Act.

During the same period, about 77 grams of heroin oil, 180 grams of brown sugar, 10 LSD stamps, 7 grams of methamphetamine and 1,550 ganja beads were also seized. 13 cannabis plants and 220 grams of heroin were also seized.

Mr. Saxena said that there will be no let up in the campaign against drug trafficking. “We will launch awareness campaigns including social media to effectively deal with this menace,” he added.

In the biggest heroin seizure of the period, drugs worth Rs 2 million were reportedly seized, and three people from Assam were arrested in Kaladi. Investigation into the incident has allegedly revealed an innovative modus operandi used by the accused to evade police arrest.

They allegedly transported the heroin by rail to Thrissur before taking buses to smuggle the drug to Kaladi, hoping to help them evade the police.
