For the benefit of the students of Bethany Special School, the students of various schools of Bethany Institutions are putting on dramatic musical performances among other reasons. The performance based on the Broadway theatrical script Big Fish is being staged at St. John’s Auditorium, Koramangala on December 5th to 7th at 6.45 pm.
The play itself is based on the 1998 novel of the same name, which was adapted into a BAFTA-nominated film in 2003 by director Tim Burton.
According to a statement from the Bethany Institution, the musical portion of the play will feature about 10 major songs, including “a mix of country, blues-rock, and timeless musical theater ballads” backed by a live band made up of students, music teachers. , and alumni.
According to the school faculty, the school has a theatrical production every year, along with the school carnival.
Bethany school children in elementary and beyond went through four levels of auditions in July for various roles, ultimately selecting a cast of 148 students to participate in the theatrical production. Rehearsals for the musical began in October and have been ongoing ever since.
Students at the institution have stuck to music in their theatrical endeavors, with previous musical performances ‘School of Rock’ featuring adaptations of animated films such as Madagascar and Shrek. The scripts have been slightly edited to suit the sensibilities of the school, but key elements such as the music have been kept intact.
“Every department in the organization is involved in making props, LED walls… it’s really something to see. We also send invitations to schools for morning events. We expect a full house on Friday and Saturday,” a faculty member told The Indian Express.
In addition to supporting Bethany Special School, the proceeds from the event will also go to the Staff and Student Welfare Fund and the Support Fund. Donor passes to attend the event can be found at https://in.bookmyshow.com/plays/big-fish/ET00412766.
