A day after he was shot at, former Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal appeared for guard duty at Takht Kesgarh Sahib in Anandpur Sahib on Thursday with increased security.
The 62-year-old Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader was on ‘punishment’ guard duty outside the Golden Temple on Wednesday when a man identified as ex-terrorist Narayan Singh Chaura tried to open it as part of a religious punishment handed down by the Akal Takht. He shot him before he could control him. Chaura will be produced in court on Wednesday.
Badal, who has Z Plus security, has to spend two days at Takht Kesgarh Sahib as part of his religious punishment.
On Wednesday, security personnel on guard duty in Amritsar were in plain clothes and their deployment was scattered. On Thursday, the number of security personnel was increased and the employees were also in uniform. As Badal stood guard near the entrance of Takht Kesgarh Sahib, security personnel stood to Badal’s right.
Apart from Badal’s personal security, uniformed policemen were also seen at the scene.
