Suvendu on terror radar: IB alerts state police on threats from Bangla outfits Kolkata News

The Home Ministry’s Intelligence Bureau (IB) has sent an alert to the West Bengal Police, warning of a possible attack on Leader of Opposition in the Assembly and BJP MLA Subendu Adhikari by Bangladeshi terrorist outfits.

In a letter to the Director General of Police and other officials of the state police, the Assistant Director/VIP Security Assistant, Intelligence Bureau (MHA), said on December 19, “According to an anecdotal input, Harkat-ul-Jihad-al-Islam. Bangladesh (HUJ-BD) And Hizb-ut-Tahrir (HuT) targeting Subendu Adhikari (LoP, WBLA) in public meeting on December 24-26, 2024 for his anti-Bangladesh actions/comments can plan.

The letter also stated that “some Bangladesh-based Islamist organizations are planning to target the officer in the coming days” especially during any public rally or protest event.

“Furthermore, 3 Bangladeshi criminals, namely Shakeel (nfi), Samsul Alam (nfi) and an unidentified person may have been employed to target the said BJP leader. Also, a separate input suggests that some Bangladesh-based Islamist organizations may attack Mr. Subendu Adhikari in the coming days. However, the officer said that he is not afraid of ‘such threats’. β€œFirst CPIM, TMC also tried to attack and now terrorists. I will not say anything about it. I will live among the people. They will protect me. They are my shield,” he said. The official had said on Thursday, ‘I am in public life and will continue to speak out on issues affecting the people, including the attack on the Hindu minority in Bangladesh.

Meanwhile, the ruling TMC and the opposition BJP are engaged in a political slugfest over the recent arrest of suspected terrorists in West Bengal. While the ruling party in the state is holding the Center responsible for “terrorist infiltration” in Bengal, the BJP has accused the TMC of making the state a safe haven for such elements. “The BJP is basically trying to tarnish our image after losing all the elections,” TMC MLA Shaukat Mollah said.

BJP leaders claimed that the state administration has failed to stop terrorists from taking refuge in the state.
