The hopes of Alexander Zverev for a glorious Wimbledon championship are threatened by his sore left knee. The German player reached the last sixteen after a hard-fought win against Cameron Norrie, however, there is doubt about his physical condition.
A rough tumble during the match made many fear another severe ankle injury like at the 2022 French Open. Zverev had to be helped off court hobbling where he was then attended to leading to memories of being wheeled away in a chair.
However, preliminary examinations showed no major damage. Zverev wants to play his next encounter with Taylor Fritz instead but it is not clear how much pain he is feeling and whether this will affect his movement on court.
Zverev underwent a second medical assessment as reports describe and received the go-ahead signal. For more clarification MRI scans can help.
The injury has limited Zverev himself admits. Although he says he “is feeling pain” the tennis player remains positive pointing out that it does not appear that serious enough to interfere with him winning the championship title.

Zverev’s team has decided to keep under wraps any details regarding movements causing discomfort. He may be doing this strategically so opponents don’t know what they’re up against.
Wimbledon offered Zverev a golden chance this year. He had a good start, taking advantage of an relatively open draw while having one of the most potent serves on grass courts which only added more hope for him.
For his part, Zverev has publicly stated that he wants to win his first ever Grand Slam title. He believes in himself and wants to continue playing at his best level going forward. However, now comes an obstacle – his knee.
Only time will tell how Zverev deals with this injury physically. If healthy and able to maintain current form, an exciting contest awaits the German hopeful.
