Slight relief from cold in Kashmir India news

There was some relief from cold conditions in Kashmir on Saturday as the minimum temperature in the Valley rose but continued to stay below the freezing point, officials said.

Night temperatures in Kashmir improved last night even as weather stations in the Valley continued to experience sub-zero nights, they said.

Srinagar city recorded minus 2 degrees Celsius – higher than the previous night’s minimum of minus 4.1 degrees Celsius, they said.

A minimum temperature of minus 2.4 degrees Celsius was recorded in Qazigund, the gateway town of the valley in south Kashmir.

The minimum temperature at the Pahalgam tourist resort, which also serves as one of the base camps for the annual Amarnath Yatra, settled at minus 4.3 degrees Celsius – up from minus 6.5 degrees Celsius the previous night which is the lowest so far this season.

Famous ski resort Gulmarg recorded minus 3.6 degrees Celsius, Kupwara minus 3.6 degrees Celsius, and Kokarnag minus 2.2 degrees Celsius, officials said.

The Meteorological Department said light rain is likely in some plains and hilly areas of Jammu division and light rain or light snowfall is likely at some high altitude places on December 8 and 9.

The weather will remain dry from December 10-14 while light rain or light snowfall is likely at isolated places from December 15-16.
