CCTV footage has emerged that shows the identity of the suspect who brutally raped and killed a trainee doctor in Kolkata. Aaj Tak’s Arvind Ojha has obtained this exclusive footage that is now considered pivotal evidence to establish the timeline of events relating to this horrific incident which took place on a trainee doctors’ life. Man marked with red circle in the footage above was identified as Sanjay Roy, prime suspect for commiting the murder.
What Does the Footage Reveal!?
Sanjay Roy being shown arriving into R.G Kar Medical College seminar hall via CCTV, at 4:03 am on August 9th. This is where it starts, showing clearly accused entering crime scene. As per timeline given, it was tragically here that 31-year-old trainee doctor was raped and murdered.
In another tape from a camera near the seminar Hall; around 4:03 AM, Sanjay Roy can be seen coming inside wearing jeans and t-shirt carrying a helmet in his hand-a helmet similar to what Kolkata Police use as uniform. It is worth pointing out that he had some sort of Bluetooth headphone hanging around his neck when he entered the hall. However, by the time he left this device disappeared without any traces.
This missing bluetooth proved crucial later on. The police of Kolkata recovered it from Sanjay Roy while he was arrested marking connectivity between this specific item with his phone substantiating its connection with him at crime scene. By itself such discovery literally puts final nail into coffin making sure of involvement by Roy in monstrous act..
The Timeline of a Nightmare
The detailed timeline as captured by CCTV footage is both chilling and revealing. At 3:34 AM outside RG Kar Medical College entrance gate, Sanjay Roy rode inside on his bike and parked it. At 3:48 AM, he entered the emergency building and then proceeded to the third floor where seminar hall is situated. On that note, Roy is seen leaving the third floor at 4:32 AM after committing the crime while carrying a helmet in his hand from chest ward. He slid away from hospital premises at around 4:37 am after mounting on his bike.
Based on this footage, Roy was present at this hospital during Aug 9 night and his movements within are mapped out. It should be noted that when he left the hall there wasn’t any Bluetooth device but it was later found at the crime scene. This particular thing in question was subsequently connected with Roy’s phone thereby further incriminating him in commotion.
A Horrific Crime Unveiled
The details of what happened were shocking indeed; as Sanjay Roy entered into a seminar hall where a medical trainee woman was sleeping and allegedly molested her while she was semi-conscious leading to her death by strangulation which culminated in rape not long after that. A post mortem report confirmed rape before murder showing 16 external injuries and nine internal injuries suggesting severity of brutal assault which took place there.
The Kolkata Police has come under heavy scrutiny due to this case that has caught the attention of many people. The Supreme Court too seems to have taken cognizance of the matter, as Chief Justice D.Y. Chandrachud heard it recently on a bench.
Supreme Court Raises Concerns!?
On August 22, during a hearing, the CBI submitted its status report about this case to the Supreme Court. It is alleged by CBI that there was tampering at the crime scene after incident and criticized Kolkata police for not securing the properly secured area. Senior Advocate Kapil Sibal, who represented West Bengal refuted this claim strongly. According to him, the whole scene was videographed making all allegations about tampering misplaced.
There were certain aspects of the case that troubled even Supreme Court. It was brought out by CJI Chandrachud that although unnatural death had been registered at 10:10 AM; however crime scene was only sealed at 11:04 PM which is almost thirteen hours later. This crucial delay in sealing scene of crime raises serious questions regarding integrity of investigation.
Justice Manoj Misra from among them also wondered why after postmortem done in evening when the case was registered in morning crime scene had not been secured immediately.
