Visakhapatnam:A government-appointed commission on sub-classification of scheduled castes headed by retired IAS officer Rajeev Ranjan Mishra visited Visakhapatnam on Wednesday. The commission called the district collector’s office to collect proposals from scheduled caste groups, employment unions and community leaders.
District Collector MN Harendra Prasad presented caste statistics and departmental information. A total of 194 memorandums were submitted. Dalit Sangham Ekya Vedika highlighted that Articles 341 and 342 mandate parliamentary approval for changes in the list of scheduled castes, which require a two-thirds majority. They emphasized that reservation addresses social disadvantages, negating the relevance of the creamy layer criteria.
