As a part of ‘Doli-mukt Andhra Pradesh’ mission, the Ankapalli district administration has taken steps to provide road connectivity to 17 tribal settlements spread over four mandals.
Twenty-one road works are currently underway at an estimated cost of Rs 21.79 crore, and officials expect to complete most of them by Sankranti (January 2025).
These works have been initiated after a survey conducted by the Engineering Department and Panchayat Raj officials to identify slums without road network due to lack of proper health and transport facilities.
Nine works are being done in Ravikatam Mandal at a cost of 4 billion 45 crores. These roads will connect Marupaka and Chemalapadu, benefiting settlements like Gadabapalem, Pedagaruvu, Ajaypuram and Nerelabanda.
Three roads have been constructed in Rolugunta mandal at a cost of 81 million. Losangi of Arla village and Korupolu and Pitrugedda of ML Patnam village stand to gain.
Construction of seven roads at a cost of Rs 8.27 crore has been started to benefit Kodapalli, Ramannapalem, Polagaruvu, Buchampalem, Borrachinta, Boddagummi, KT Palem and Godugumamidi settlements in Devrapalli mandal.
Two works at a cost of 97 lakhs have been taken up to benefit Antumanujoru, Kasimi, Ruthlapalem and Pathamallampeta areas in Golugonda mandal.
“The government has launched a focused initiative to eliminate the age-old practice of doli by ensuring road connectivity in all tribal settlements, including those with a population of less than 100,” says District Collector Vijay Krishnan.
“Sankranti and remaining works are being done by February 2025 and efforts are on to bring much-needed infrastructure to these remote areas,” she says.
He said that he is closely monitoring the progress of the work to complete it on time and to address the transportation challenges that the residents have been facing for a long time.
