Water supply is gradually being restored to several divisions of the Kochi Corporation around Palarivattam after marathon maintenance work by KWA engineers and workers overnight on Saturday (December 21). The repair work started after a water pipe burst near Pallipadi on the Dhamnam-Palarivattam road on Saturday afternoon.

A KWA official said water pumping resumed at reduced capacity on Sunday (December 22) and would be fully restored by Monday, although some areas at the end of the supply line may still face problems.

The repair work of the pipeline was completed at 5:30 am on Sunday, said George Nanattu, Councilor of Division 44 of the Corporation.

Even though the water supply is returning to normal, the Corporation officials are ready to provide drinking water to households in Thammanam and surrounding areas using tanker lorries. Palarivattam councilor Georgi Kurekode said the tanker was supplied after a water pipe burst from the Thammanam pump house a week ago.

Due to the repair work going on at the place where the pipe burst and the road caved in, traffic has not resumed on the Vithilla-Palarivattam route. Two-wheelers are being diverted to facilitate road maintenance work. That traffic does not block the restored pipeline.

Mr. Kurekode said a small section of the pipeline was old and needed to be replaced. He pointed out the reason for the delay in the repair work by saying that there was a dispute between the locals regarding the replacement of the old pipeline.
