National Tribal Festival from December 24

Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Backward Classes Welfare Minister Va Kelu will inaugurate the week-long National Tribal Festival ‘Nerathinka-24’ starting at the Institute of Research Training and Development Studies, Kerala Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (KIRTADS) campus. Tuesday (December 24) at 6 p.m. Mayor Bina Philip will preside over the event.

The festival, which will be held from December 24 to 30, will showcase the food, art, culture, literature and handicrafts of the tribal communities of Kerala, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.

The festival includes Ethnic Food Festival, ‘Uchal’, Art Festival, ‘Nera Bare’, Tribal Literary Camp, ‘Belibane’, Tribal Medicine Camp and Tribal Dance Festival.

The food festival showcases the tribal cuisine of the Kani tribe of Thiruvananthapuram, the Kurichya tribe of Vettakkurumar and Wayanad, the Koli Mahadeva tribe of Maharashtra, the Thoda tribe of Tamil Nadu and the Oron tribe of Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh. A major attraction will be the preparation of various tubers found in the Western Ghats.

The festival will be open to the public from 10 am to 9 pm every day.
