Special prayers and masses will celebrate Christmas in Mysore on Wednesday. The city embraces the festive spirit with lights and illuminations in the main churches for the occasion.
St. Philomena’s Church, which is also a tourist and heritage site, is expected to witness an increase in traffic as devotees and tourists come to see the church and attend prayers.
The church is the highlight of everyone’s eyes as a large rangoli depicting the image of Jesus Christ has been painted on its base by artist Punit. Apart from the midnight mass, there will be other special services throughout the day which provide space for reflection for the devotees, as well as making it an opportunity for social gathering.
Church officials said they will hold a special event on December 29 to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ in the year 2025. Its details will be announced in due course.
Other major churches in the city, including Wesley Cathedral, St. Bartholomew’s Cathedral, Hardwick Church, Infant Jesus Church, and more near the suburban bus stand, are also decked up for the celebrations throughout Wednesday.
In keeping with the festive spirit, many malls and shops in the city are also bustling with people buying Christmas gifts and goodies. Many local shops and business establishments are fully lit and decorated like butterflies, cutouts of Santa Claus, traditional Christmas stars, candles, etc. adding to the festive atmosphere in the city.
