‘Kamarupeegal’, Sanchaya’s popular mythological play, stages 50th show in Bengaluru

A thoughtfully crafted and visually appealing mythological play for Kannada theater audiences eager to experience, KamarupigalPresented by the amateur theater group Sanchaya, the popular selection has been running for three years. A 36-year-old amateur theater group from Bengaluru is set to perform 50.th Popular drama show on December 28 in Bengaluru.

Adapted from several versions of Ramayanaincluding Kuvempu Sri Ramayana DarshanamThis play is designed and directed by Ganesh Mandarthi. Premiered at the Ranga Shankara Theater Festival in 2021, Kamarupigal Inspired by Panchavati part of Ramayana.

The play begins with the humiliation of Shurapanaki by Rama and Lakshmana and ends with Jatayu Moksha. The production talks about many aspects of life including righteousness, evil, love, hate, romance and lust. Blending ethnicity with modernity, the play sheds light on Shurpanaki’s attraction to Ram and its implications.

‘I am very happy that the drama I directed is doing well and is about to complete 50 yearsth show,” says Ganesh. ‘The play is good but not the only reason for its long run. Kuvempu’s name, Sanchaya’s dedication, hard work and hospitality, Rangashankar’s openness to give this play many shows, excellent musicians and singers, dedicated actors and production people and others. Many factors have contributed to the success of the play.

Ganesh says that he is often asked why he directs a mythological drama. “If we stop working on mythology, it will be the end of such a rich history. Be it mythology, Ramayana, Mahabharata, Sufism or many others, it’s all etched in our DNA, and it’s something we easily connect with and embrace.” Must continue.

With lighting designed and executed by Prithvi Venugopal, the music is by Bharat GV, Vivek Ji, Ananya Suresh and Havish Srinath. Aahan Gowda, Vaishnavi Chakrapani and Arun Kumar are in the lead roles.

Ahan says that drama has given him identity. “I had just graduated from Rangayana, Mysuru. I had learned all the principles but needed the right place to implement it. Watched the Ganesh play. Wally killedWhich I really liked and wanted to work with him someday. It was like the universe heard me. I came to know that Sanchaya had invited Ganesh to direct the play and I joined the team.

Ahan says that the play has become popular since then. β€œI also started getting a bit popular, people know me as Ram Kamarupigal.

First in 36 years

The president of Sanchaya, Chitrasekhar Nonabhinakere, says that the main reason for such a long time is the efforts of every artist in the production. We are all happy to see the success and popularity of this play. Most of Sanchaya’s dramas have performed well but this is the first drama to complete 50 years in 36 years.th Show me.”
