Vijayawada: YSR Congress president and former chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has urged party members to channel public discontent against the coalition government into an organized movement, highlighting its failures and serving as the voice of the people. Addressing the local people’s representative of Anantapur district on Thursday, he said that people’s dissatisfaction with the government led by Chandrababu Naidu has reached an unprecedented level within 6 months and it is necessary to bring these issues to the attention of the people.
Outlining the YSRC’s roadmap for public protests, Jagan emphasized issue-based campaigns. The party has planned a protest on December 27 asking people to burn expensive bills as a symbolic act of protest against the increase in electricity tariffs. On January 3, the focus will be on the backlog of Rs 3,900 crore in fee reimbursement and hostel grant arrears, which has hampered the education of students. “These protests are not about politics; they are about standing with the people and amplifying their voices,” Jagan emphasized.
He criticized the Telugu Desam regime, citing an additional burden of Rs 15,000 crore on citizens due to increased electricity charges. Jagan also reminded the party workers of being part of the disaster leadership. “Injustice, court cases and even jail sentences are inevitable in the fight for people’s rights. I stayed in jail for 16 months but became the chief minister after becoming strong,” he said. “Confidence is increasing among party members.
Jagan dismissed Naidu’s “Vision 2047” as a hollow distraction, at odds with the YSRC’s initiatives. “While Naidu spins colorful stories, we have brought about meaningful changes – transforming government schools into rival private institutions, introducing state-of-the-art courses, and revolutionizing healthcare through programs like the Family Physician System,” he explained.
Reiterating the need for collective action, Jagan called for resilience and determination. “People’s discontent with the TD government is palpable. We must channel this sentiment into meaningful resistance. Together, we can transform this protest into support for the YSRC,” he concluded.
