Indian carriers flew 12% more passengers on domestic routes in November to 1.42 crore

Indian airlines carried 1.42 crore passengers on domestic routes in November, up nearly 12% from the same period last year, amid growing demand for air transport.

In terms of domestic market share, IndiGo tops the list with 63.6% of the pie, followed by Air India (24.4%), Akasa Air (4.7%) and SpiceJet (3.1%). While all these carriers saw their shares grow, Alliance Air’s share was unchanged at 0.7% in November, according to the latest data from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).

“Passengers carried by domestic airlines stood at 1,464.02 lakh during January-November 2024 as against 1,382.34 lakh during the same period last year, resulting in a growth of 5.91% YoY and 11.90% MoM,” the watchdog said in its said in the monthly report. .

The number of domestic air passengers in November was 142.52 lakh compared to 127.36 lakh during the same period last year.

In October this year, domestic passengers were 13.6 million.

Air India completed its merger with the full-service carrier Vistara in November.

The on-time performance (OTP) of scheduled domestic airlines calculated for the four metro airports of Bengaluru, Delhi, Hyderabad and Mumbai has been pushed to November.

IndiGo’s OTP stood at 74.5% while that of Akasa Air and SpiceJet touched 66.4% and 62.5% respectively.

Air India and Alliance Air’s OTP was 58.8% and 58.9% respectively, the data showed.

Moreover, data shows that 2,24,904 passengers were affected due to delays in November. The carriers spent around ₹ 2.90 crore for the facility.

Last month, 624 passenger complaints were lodged with scheduled domestic airlines.

Around 3,539 passengers were denied boarding in November and the airline spent Rs 2.84 crore to provide compensation and facilities in this regard.

The data shows that 27,577 passengers were affected by the cancellation of flights, for which the airlines spent Rs 36.79 lakh in compensation and expansion of facilities.
