Manchester United staged an incredible late comeback to beat Manchester City 2-1 in their Premier League clash on Sunday. Amad Diallo scored the decisive goal in the 90th minute of the game.
In the 88th minute of the match at the Etihad Stadium, Manchester City took a 1-0 lead over Manchester United. However, a penalty by Bruno Fernandes brought United back into the game. In a dramatic turn of events, Amad Diallo scored the winner in the 90th minute to seal a thrilling victory for United and deal a major blow to City’s title hopes.
The last-gap comeback win has given Manchester City’s title aspirations a significant boost. Pep Guardiola’s side have now suffered their eighth defeat in 11 games in all competitions.
The star of the game for United was Amad Diallo. He has also been the stand out star of United’s new head coach Ruben Amorim’s new tenure. Earlier, Diallo won a penalty after prompting a rash tackle on left-back Mathias Nunes. Bruno Fernandes equalized by scoring a penalty for United. Then in the 90th minute, Diallo scored to give United the win.
City fans were disappointed when the final whistle blew, reflecting a dismal performance from the team. With just one win in the last 11 games, City’s dominance has waned.
Manchester City is now fifth in the Premier League with 27 points after 16 games. They have a five-goal gap. They are now nine points behind league leaders Liverpool with 36 points from one game less.
Meanwhile, Manchester United are 13th in the table with 22 points from 16 games.
As the Associated Press points out, this is the first derby win for United coach Amorim, who led Sporting Lisbon to a 4-1 win against City in November in one of his last games in charge of the Portuguese club.
