Munirathna, RR Nagar MLA, on Wednesday lodged a complaint with the Nandini Layout police against those who threw eggs at him, claiming that the eggs were laced with acid.
Terming the attack as politically motivated, Munirathna recalled two incidents where two men posing as lawyers threatened them with dire consequences. According to the complaint, the duo had threatened to file a case under the POCSO Act, 2012 and defame him if he did not resign as MLA and let DK Suresh or Kusuma win the by-election.
In his complaint, Munirathna said that he had complained to the governor and the state intelligence chief for security cover and had also raised the issue with the president and the prime minister.
He claimed that he stopped going to public events because of threats. On Wednesday, former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee was returned home after attending the birth anniversary program in Lakshmidevi Nagar when acid was hurled at him. He claimed that his head was on fire.
Based on the complaint, the police have registered an FIR for further investigation on charges of causing injury to unknown persons and unlawful assembly.
