According to India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast, cold wave will continue in Punjab, Chandigarh and Haryana in coming days. A yellow warning has been issued on 23rd, 24th and 25th of December due to heavy rain in isolated places of this region.
Another bulletin issued by the IMD at 11.30 am on Monday predicted thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds with a speed of 30-40 km per hour over many parts of Punjab and Haryana throughout the day. Many areas of Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh are already experiencing strong winds, storms and lightning.
Additionally, wintry showers are expected on December 26, 27, and 28. The IMD Chandigarh weather bulletin indicates that rain is likely at isolated places on December 26 and 28, while December 27 may bring thundershowers and lightning over some areas.
In the last 24 hours it has rained in various districts of Punjab and Haryana. According to the IMD report released on Monday morning, Bathinda received 8.4 mm of rain followed by 5.5 mm in Moga. Faridkot received 5.2 mm of rain, Ferozepur 2.5 mm and Fazilka 1 mm.
Hisar in Haryana received the highest rainfall of 2.4 mm while Sirsa received 1.5 mm of rain. On Monday morning, the weather in Punjab and Haryana was cloudy with partly to normal fog. According to the weather forecast division, this weather is expected to continue throughout the day. Low visibility was recorded at 500 meters due to fog in Ludhiana, while visibility was reported to be good in other parts of Punjab and Haryana, according to a report issued by the Meteorological Department on Monday morning.
However, the minimum temperature in Gurdaspur was 3 degrees Celsius on Sunday and reached 4 degrees Celsius on Monday morning in the same district. The lowest minimum temperature in Haryana on Sunday morning was 3.6 degrees Celsius.
After the rain, the minimum minimum temperature on Monday morning rose to 6.8 degrees Celsius, as reported by IMD Chandigarh in the weather report from Mahendragarh while the highest minimum temperature was 11.8 degrees Celsius in Sirsa. The highest minimum temperature in Punjab on Monday morning was 10.4 degrees Celsius in the border district of Fazilka.
The highest temperature in Punjab on Sunday evening was 26.3 degrees Celsius at Fazilka, and the lowest maximum temperature in Punjab was 18.8 degrees Celsius at Gurdaspur on Sunday evening.
In Haryana on Sunday evening, the highest maximum temperature was recorded in Mahendragarh at 23.5 degrees Celsius, while the lowest maximum temperature was 20.8 degrees Celsius in Sirsa.
Rains will benefit the wheat crop in Punjab, and hosiery manufacturers may get relief if the cold wave continues in the region.
