The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) on Saturday organized a workshop with legal experts to discuss legal issues related to conservation of government land and lake conservation.
The workshop was also attended by retired government employees along with legal experts and discussed the do’s and don’ts of constructing lake beds and layout in open spaces.
The right of private land inside the lake is valid only for cultivation, not for construction, the participants of the workshop advocated that plots cannot be registered within the lake, government land and illegal layout.
Layouts approved by village panchayats will not have legal sanctity once they come under the purview of village HMDA. Each layout should have 30% space allocated for public utilities. They say that direct action can be taken if the land allocated for public utility is misused.
Besides village maps, NRSC data and Survey of India maps can be used to find illegal dumping/filling sites in lakes, they added.
Among the participants of the workshop, Senior High Court Advocate R. Mahendra Reddy, standing counsel for GHMC and HYDRAA K. Ravindra Reddy and Assistant Standing Counsel Ch. Jayakrishna, retired Deputy Collector N. Srinivasa Rao, retired Special Deputy Collector, CCLA, B. Madhusudan, former senior advocate and educationist P. Rajagopal, except from others.
