1. Karnataka Winter Session: The marathon assembly session stretches to around 1 p.m

The Karnataka Legislative Assembly witnessed a marathon session on Monday (December 16, 2024), transacting business till 12.50 pm on Tuesday (December 17, 2024) in Belagavi. The session, which started at around 10.30 am, lasted for 1 hour on Tuesday afternoon, including an hour lunch break.

The House took question time till late at night. 2. Former Chief Minister Nijlingappa’s house will be made a memorial, and the district administration will be responsible for the restoration

The house of late Karnataka Chief Minister S Nijalingappa was handed over to the Chitradurga district administration on December 16 for conversion into a memorial. KEB Shanmukhappa, Trustee of S Nijalingappa Memorial Trust, handed over the keys to his residence at VP Extension, Chitradurga to Deputy Commissioner T. Venkatesh and handed over to Additional DC BT Kumaraswamy.

The house was purchased from the legal heirs of Mr. Nijlingappa at a cost of Rs.4,18,49,016 as per estimates of the Public Works Department. The remaining 80 lakhs will be spent on civilian works. Photographs, gifts and other materials used by Mr. Nijlingappa will be preserved with the help of archeologists and the house will be converted into a memorial and museum.

3. Winter is here, Bengaluru!

Winter has really started in Bengaluru as cold weather conditions have been observed in the city for the past two days. The minimum temperature has dropped to 15 degree Celsius. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Bengaluru’s observational data was recorded at 8.30 am on December 17, the minimum temperature in Bengaluru city was 15.5 degrees Celsius.

Two other observatories HAL Airport and Kempegowda International Airport also recorded a minimum of 15 degrees Celsius respectively. The average minimum temperature in Bengaluru for the month of December is 16.4 degrees Celsius. According to IMD records, the all-time minimum temperature recorded for the month of December was 8.9 degrees Celsius on December 29, 1883.

4. Mangaluru court sentenced five people to one year imprisonment for child marriage

The Additional District Sessions Judge, Fast Track Sessions Court-2, Mangaluru has sentenced 29-year-old Mohammad Imtiaz, who married a minor girl, to one year imprisonment and a total fine of Rs 25,000 to his parents and the girl’s parents. . They were found guilty of child marriage.

The judge imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 each on Imtiaz, his parents KA Mohammad and Maimuna and Abdul Khader and Ramlath, the parents of the 17-year-old girl. Imtiaz has been convicted of an offense punishable under Section 9 of the Child Marriage Prohibition Act. The rest were convicted for offenses punishable under Sections 10 and 11 of the PCMA.
