Fifteen people, including the former branch manager of the Ahmedabad-based State Bank of Saurashtra, have been sentenced to three to five years in jail with a collective fine of Rs 15.35 lakh in a bank fraud case worth Rs 1.62 crore.
Special Judge for CBI Cases, Court No. 1 Ahmedabad has sentenced fifteen accused, including former branch manager of State Bank of Saurashtra, Naroda Road Branch, Ahmedabad, Becher Ganesh Jala, among others.
The other 14 convicted are Raghavendra K Rajgor; Mukesh Natwar Brahmabhat; Amit Ajit Vyas; Rajendra Natwarlal Brahmabhat; Chetan Jagdish Bhatt; Karan Vikram Mahida; Rajesh Arvind Patel; Mahesh Muralidhar Sabnani; Chinmay Girishchandra Trivedi; Jayesh Shyamalal Aswani; Rajinikanth Chotelal Upadhyay; Nilesh Sureshchandra Shah; Bimal K. Mehta and Hemendra L.
The CBI had registered a case against the accused on September 11, 2001 alleging that the then Branch Manager BG Jala had entered into a criminal conspiracy with the said accused private individuals and others for the purpose of defrauding the State Bank of Saurashtra. 1.62 crores on the basis of forged documents submitted by several borrowers by Naroda Road Branch in the matter of public housing finance by misusing the position of a government servant and approving housing finance.
In a statement issued by the CBI on Saturday, it is said that the accused BG Jala in the said criminal conspiracy fraudulently and dishonestly failed to verify the creditworthiness of the said borrowers and sanctioned the housing loan by abusing his status as a government employee. to borrowers.
After completion of the investigation, the CBI filed nine separate charge sheets against the convicted accused on different dates.
Out of nine special cases, five cases have been decided.
The charges against the nine accused were dismissed as they died during the hearing of the case. After the trial, the court found 15 people guilty and sentenced them.
