GRAP 3 re-implemented in Delhi-NCR after rise in air pollution, schools up to class 5 shifted to hybrid mode

GRAP Stage 3 also includes a ban on non-essential diesel-powered medium goods vehicles of BS-IV or older norms within Delhi.

The Center’s Air Quality Panel for Delhi-NCR has called for GRAP III following a sharp rise in pollution levels. Under GRAP III, schools and colleges in Delhi, Gurugram, Faridabad, Ghaziabad, and Gautam Buddha Nagar will shift classes up to class five to hybrid mode. Students and parents will have the option to choose online education where available. Delhi’s AQI was 367 at 2 pm. Poor air quality, caused by adverse weather conditions, usually lasts from November to January.

“Considering the extreme adverse weather conditions including calm winds and very low mixing heights that push Delhi’s AQI to the high end of the Very Poor category, the Sub-Committee of the Panel on Graded Response Action Plan decides to implement Phase 3 of the revised GRAP schedule. (Continued on Friday) Entire in NCR, with immediate effect,” an official order said.

What is closed under GRAP 3?

Stage 3 bans non-essential diesel-powered medium goods vehicles of BS-IV or older standards within Delhi. Non-essential diesel light commercial vehicles of BS-IV or older standards, registered outside Delhi are also not allowed to enter the city. Earlier such ban was applicable only to BS-III vehicles.
