Zakir Hussain, 73, was admitted to a hospital in San Francisco for two weeks and was later shifted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) after his condition worsened. His family said he died on Sunday, December 15. His family also confirmed that the cause of his death was complications from idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis – a chronic lung disease.

Hussain, a legendary tabla player and considered a great of his time, was famous for his ‘dancing fingers’. He mastered Indian classical music and brought Indian music to global fame by collaborating with famous western musicians.
