India on Friday said it was closely monitoring the situation as Islamist rebels continued to advance in Syria.
“We have taken into account the recent fighting in the northern region of Syria. We are monitoring the situation closely. About 90 Indian nationals are in Syria, 14 of whom are working in various UN organizations,’ said Randhir Jaiswal, the official spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs.
“… Our mission remains in close contact with our citizens for their safety and security,” he said in response to a question at his weekly media briefing.
Rebels have almost taken control of the central Syrian city of Homs.
