Hyderabad:State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT), Telangana organized a one-day seminar on Mathematics Education on Saturday. The event, titled “Timeless Journey: From Vedic Maths to Quantum Computing”, was organized to mark the birth anniversary of renowned Indian mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan.
The seminar was held at the SCERT campus in Hyderabad, and saw the active participation of teachers and educators from across Telangana. Of the 66 papers submitted, 31 were presented at the program and showed a variety of approaches to mathematics education.
The seminar was presided over by Director of SCERT, Telangana G. Ramesh did it. The chief guest was EV Narasimha Reddy, director of school education, and the panel included IE Vijayalakshmi, RJD-Hyderabad, Dr A Rambabu and MS Ranga Chari, retired mathematics lecturer from Warangal.
In his inaugural address, Narasimha Reddy lauded the role of teachers in shaping a generation and spoke on the importance of instilling logical reasoning in students. He also pointed out the relationship between mathematics, software development and engineering, particularly its application to historical architectural achievements such as India’s medieval forts. He asked to strengthen the role of SCERT by conducting more research and interdisciplinary seminars.
In the program G. Ramesh released a collection of seminar papers. Srinivasa Ramanujan’s portrait was lit and homage was offered. Recalling his own school days, the director shared how a mathematics teacher inspired him to pursue the subject in higher education. He emphasized the importance of intellectual skills to make mathematics accessible to all.
Certificates were awarded to all the participating teachers and paper presenters for their contribution to the seminar.
