DU’s first NEP 2020 batch may soon complete their final year semester abroad Education News

Students of Delhi University’s first batch of NEP 2020 will soon get an opportunity to complete their final year semester in a foreign university, pending approval of recommendations from the committee responsible for conducting the initiative.

These students, who are also the first batch of the Four-Year Undergraduate Program (FYUP), will have the option of conducting a semester at selected Foreign Higher Educational Institutions (FHEIs) abroad under the new twinning degree arrangement introduced earlier by the university. year

The committee formed to determine the framework for the implementation of the twinning degree system has submitted its recommendation, which will be submitted to the academic council of the university for consideration on December 27.

As per the recommendations, graduate students enrolled in Delhi University from the academic year 2022-23 will be allowed to study in foreign universities in their seventh semester.

First-year students will have the opportunity to study abroad in the third or fifth semester, while second-year students will have the option to study abroad in the fifth or seventh semester.

Under this arrangement, students will be able to complete a semester abroad, earning a minimum of 12 credits and a maximum of 26 credits. Upon return, students will receive their degrees from the parent institution, University of Delhi.

The twinning degree arrangement will also be accessible to meritorious students from economically weaker backgrounds. The university plans to support one or two students from this category to participate in the program at a foreign university. An objective selection process will be established to identify these students.

The University’s International Relations Office will be responsible for initiating collaboration with foreign universities for twinning programs, negotiating matters such as course fees, curriculum, student medical insurance, accommodation and other logistical arrangements.

Information about available options will be posted on the university website so that students are well informed.

An academic expert committee will be constituted to review the applications of foreign universities to arrange twinning degrees.

Eligibility criteria for FHEIs to be considered for support will include their comparable or superior ranking in global university rankings such as the QS World Rankings or the Times Higher Education (THE) Rankings. Specifically, FHEIs should rank 25 percent lower than Delhi University’s ranking in the same year.

If the FHEI’s overall ranking does not meet this criterion, the University will consider the ranking of the particular discipline the student wishes to study, ensuring that the ranking of the discipline is comparable or superior to that of the same discipline at Delhi University.
