Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Friday (Dec 20, 2024) acknowledged that even though the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) is aiming to win 200 seats in the 2026 assembly elections, the party will definitely go ahead. Win more seats.
Speaking to reporters in Coimbatore, who asked if the DMK would win the Erode East assembly seat — which fell vacant after the death of EVKS Elangovan — in the upcoming by-elections, he said the DMK was part of the Bharat Bloc, and that it was. The alliance is sure to win the seat. On the question whether to give seats to Congress or not, he said that the decision will be taken only after discussion with the party.
Speaking about the controversy over BR Ambedkar in Parliament, he said that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will face the case registered against him legally. On Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s remarks, Mr. Stalin said the movement was planned in consultation with other leaders of the India bloc.
Responding to a question on ‘one nation, one election’, Mr Stalin said the law undermines democratic values and termed it a “bad and sad bill”.
He also condoled the demise of former Coimbatore MP Ira. Mohan.
