According to the fourth edition of Swiggy’s annual ‘How India Swiggy’d’ report, the highest spenders on its rapid commerce platform, Instamart, in 2024 were from Delhi and Dehradun. Users spent Rs 20 lakh each on Instamart.
This year, fast commerce grew exponentially, with Indians ordering everything from groceries, make-up and toys to vacuum cleaners and sexual health products on the 10-minute delivery platform.
The Diwali season also saw orders worth Rs 45 lakh on Instamart for cleaning houses across India and Rs 4.6 lakh for poker chips from Delhi. Delhi has also ordered 600 million worth of noodles.
Reports say that a man from Ahmedabad spent around Rs 8.3 lakh on gold coins on Dhanteras.
Competing with Mumbai, Bangaloreans topped the category of essential items for worship and partying, and ordered 1.8 times more wine and shot glasses especially during the Diwali season, the report found.
A pet lover in Mumbai spent more than 15 lakhs this year on pet supplies, mainly dog ββand cat food. Meanwhile, a user from Chennai spent Rs 1,25,454 on electronics, electrical and home appliances, including gaming earphones, smartwatches, induction cookers, sandwich makers and hair straighteners. In May, a mango lover spent Rs 35,000 on the fruit.
The most ordered items from 4am to 7am were milk, vegetables and eggs, followed by ice cream, cold drinks and chips from 10pm to 4am. Between 8-9 PM, the country ordered the highest number of sanitary pads, and November saw the highest number of orders for pain relievers/sprays.
Incognito mode on Instamart was introduced earlier this year. The most ordered items with options were between 10-11 p.m. and included spice-flavored chips, crisps and flavored condoms, the report said.
The fastest delivery was completed in 89 seconds, covering a distance of 180 meters, while the cheapest order came in at Rs 3 for a pencil sharpener purchased at 8:15 pm in Hyderabad.
During the Rakhi season, 285,000 deliveries and 273 chocolates were ordered per minute under ‘Order for Others’, with a user from Mumbai ordering 31 Rakhis in a single order.
Canada saw the highest number of international logins, followed by the US, Kuwait and Singapore ordering milk, dosa batter and water.
