Meerut:
Police have arrested two women for allegedly burning five stray dogs alive after pouring petrol on them in Meerut’s Kankerkheda area, officials said on Friday.
Locals said that the women of the same neighborhood were disturbed by the loud sound of the dog.
Station House Officer Jitendra Kumar told PTI that the FIR was registered based on the statement given by Animal Care Society general secretary Anshumali Vashishtha.
Two persons named Shobha and Aarti have been booked under section 325 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act (killing or maiming animals) in a case registered at the Kankerkheda police station.
“More legal action will be taken after the investigation,” Jitendra Kumar said.
According to the complaint, the incident took place on November 5 at Sant Nagar Colony on Rohta Road.
Vashishtha claimed that a street dog had recently given birth to five puppies, which were targeted by the accused woman. They poured petrol on the dog and set it on fire.
On Friday, representatives of the Meerut Chamber of Commerce met Circle Officer (CO) Daurala Suchita Singh to bring the incident to her attention and to take strict action against the women involved in the incident.
