A special court in Kolkata on Monday failed to proceed with filing a case against former education minister Partha Chatterjee, his close aide Arpita Mukherjee and 522 others in the school jobs case.
Most of the accused present in the court said that the charges could not be framed as the Enforcement Directorate (ED) could not provide all the documents relied upon.
Arpita Mukherjee’s lawyer, who is out on bail, told the court that the ED has not submitted all the documents in the 60,000-page chargesheet.
Lawyers for Partha Chatterjee and Tapas Mandal alleged that several documents in the chargesheet were incompetent and asked the court to ask the ED to be more cooperative.
Meanwhile, TMC’s Manik Bhattacharya said the ED did not comply with the court order and did not file the closure report. Further, he submitted that the ED should file a compliance report.
As the process of indictment could not be started, the judge asked the detained persons to appear virtually, while those on bail were asked to appear physically on Tuesday to submit a report to the Supreme Court about the process of indictment. .
On December 13, the Supreme Court granted relief to Partha Chatterjee and ordered his release on bail from February 1.
