The president of Telangana Jagurtika, the cultural wing of the party, BRS MLA K. Kavita accused the Congress government of undermining the identity of Telangana and alleged that the removal of the cultural icon ‘Bathukamma’ from the Telangana thalli idol had insulted the culture and spirit of the state.
Speaking to foreign unit activists of Telangana Jagriti and BRS’s NRI wing in a virtual meeting on Sunday, she said there is a need to oppose and fight such attempts. Highlighting the key role played by NRIs in the statehood movement by uniting and uniting the Telangana society, Ms. Kavita dismissed the state government’s rationale for changing the Telangana Thalli idol as “nonsensical”.
Claims that sorghum (sorghum) and maize are unique to Telangana were “ridiculous”, she said and argued that those crops are widely grown in many countries. She said the original statue was constructed in consultation with the heroes, writers and artists of the state. Questioning the government’s secrecy, she questioned why the design of the new statue was kept under wraps until it was unveiled if it had indeed received public approval.
The Congress government’s decision has forced the Telangana community to fight another battle to restore the original Telangana thalli idol of ‘Bathukamma’, she said and criticized the gazette notification of the design of the new idol. She said that the sentiments of the people of Telangana have been hurt. He sought to know whether similar gazette notifications were issued for statues of Bharat Mata, Mahatma Gandhi, or BR Ambedkar.
