The Mumbai police has stepped up its investigation into the disappearance of stand-up comedian Sunil Pal after he returned home on Wednesday, saying he was abducted from Delhi.

A senior police officer said that the missing person’s complaint has not yet been converted into a kidnapping case. The police are investigating after taking Pal’s detailed statement.

Pal’s wife filed a missing complaint after the comedian, who had gone to a program in North India, did not return till Tuesday.

In a video uploaded on Wednesday, X, Pal claimed that he was abducted on December 2 from the Meerut side of the Delhi border, but has been released and is now completely safe. The standup comedian said he would share details of his abduction in his statement to the police.

According to the police, a case will be registered only after the truth told by Pal is confirmed.
