AAP launched a scholarship scheme for Dalit students enrolling in top foreign universities; BJP struck Delhi News

AAP National Coordinator and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday announced the ‘Dr Ambedkar Samman Scholarship Scheme’, which promised to cover fees as well as travel and accommodation expenses for Dalit students in Delhi seeking admission for higher education in top international universities.

After Kejriwal announced the scheme, which aims to extend such benefits to Dalit children, calling it “a powerful response to BJP’s disrespect for Babasaheb Ambedkar”, the BJP accused him of being a “political meteorologist”. Nothing but “old wine in a new bottle.”

Kejriwal told the media: “Three days ago Union Home Minister and BJP leader Amit Shah insulted Babasaheb Ambedkar in Parliament. The words he used were not only insulting, but the tone in which he spoke was deeply mocking… It hurt me a lot personally as I consider myself a bhakt (devotee) of Babasaheb Ambedkar”.

Responding to the two-day Rajya Sabha debate on ’75 years of glorious journey of India’s constitution’, Shah said on Tuesday: “Abhi ek fashion ho gaya hai – Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar… Etna naam agar. Bhagwan ka lete toh saat janman tak Swarg Mill Jata (a fashion these days – Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar… these many times the name of God If you chanted, you would attain heaven in seven births).

To honor Ambedkar, Kejriwal said he was making an important announcement: “Inspired by Babasaheb’s struggle and his commitment to education, I do not want any child from the Dalit community to be deprived of higher education due to lack of funds. So today I am announcing the ‘Dr. Ambedkar Samman Scholarship’.” “

Under this scheme, Kejriwal said, any Dalit student who gets admission in any of the world’s top universities can go ahead with his admission without financial worries as if the AAP government comes back to power, all their expenses, Will cover, including tuition fees. Travel, and other costs. He said that this scheme will also apply to the children of Dalit government employees.

“I strongly believe that even honest government employees often cannot afford to send their children abroad for education without a scholarship. This scheme ensures that their children can also follow in the footsteps of Babasaheb Ambedkar and achieve their dreams,” said Kejriwal.

“Today, through this initiative, we are giving a strong reply to the mockery of BJP and Amit Shah. This is a way of empowering our Dalit community and honoring Babasaheb’s legacy,” he added.

Delhi BJP president Birendra Sachdeva called Kejriwal a “political meteorologist skilled at repackaging old schemes under new names” according to the prevailing political climate.

“The announcement is a classic case of old wine in a new bottle… Kejriwal had announced a scheme for higher education scholarships for SC students before the 2020 elections; that scheme has been stalled ever since. Yet Kejriwal has now introduced it with a new name,” he alleged. put on

In August 2019, the AAP Delhi Cabinet approved a scholarship scheme to fund 100 Dalit students every year for higher studies abroad.

Delhi BJP Secretary Harish Khurana, citing an RTI reply on distribution of funds under the scheme launched in 2020, sought answers about student scholarships.

“You are an amazingly smart man bro @ArvindKejriwal. A scheme was announced many times. The scheme for studying abroad for SC children is going on since 2020 but the reality is that only five children were given money to send abroad, that too only 25 lakhs. Five Five children a year, this is your fake respect for Baba Saheb,” Khurana posted on X.
