India on Friday said that the Speaker of the People’s Republic of Maldives will visit the country from February 10 to 14 next year along with a parliamentary delegation.
Minister of State for External Affairs Pavitra Margherita informed the Lok Sabha in a written reply to a question.
He was asked whether the government had recently exchanged parliaments, emphasizing the ‘neighbourhood first’ policy it had adopted in recent years.
The question also sought details of all parliamentary exchanges held in recent years with particular reference to the People’s Majlis of the Maldives.
“Keeping in mind the objective of the ‘neighbourhood first’ policy of enhancing people-to-people relations, regular parliamentary exchanges with our neighboring countries have been taking place for years,” he said.
In his response, he shared details of recent parliamentary exchanges with neighboring countries, including the Maldives.
“On the invitation of the Hon’ble Speaker of the Lok Sabha, the Speaker of the People’s Republic of Maldives will visit India from 10-14 February 2025 along with a parliamentary delegation,” the minister said.
