West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday said she was shocked by Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s recent comments about BR Ambedkar.
Banerjee was speaking at the inauguration of the ‘Kolkata Christmas Festival’ at Allen Park in the Park Street area.
“I am shocked by the comments made about Babasaheb Ambedkar,” she said.
Banerjee on Wednesday claimed that Shah’s comments in the Rajya Sabha about BR Ambedkar were a demonstration of the BJP’s “racist and anti-Dalit mentality”.
She called the comments insulting, claiming they were an insult to millions of people who looked to Ambedkar for guidance and inspiration.
“The mask has fallen! As Parliament reflects on 75 glorious years of the Constitution, HM @AmitShah chose to tarnish the occasion with derogatory remarks against Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar, that too in the temple of democracy,” he said on Wednesday at X posted.
“This is a demonstration of BJP’s casteist and anti-Dalit mentality. If they behave like this after reducing the seats to 240 seats, imagine the loss if the dream of 400 seats is realized. They have rewritten history to completely erase the contribution of Dr. Ambedkar. were,” he alleged.
The Chief Minister reiterated that Ambedkar, the father of the Constitution, deserves respect.
