Hyderabad: Roads and Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkata Reddy said that the work on the Karimnagar-Kamareddy-Yellareddy state highway has been started after getting permission from the National Green Tribunal (NGT). Although the government has agreed to convert the provincial highways into national highways, the Center is yet to give its in-principle approval.
The minister said that the proposal to upgrade state roads to national highways was sent to the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways on July 2, 2022. Roads under state jurisdiction are spread over 165 km.
Earlier, Congress MLA K Madanmohan Rao had sought clarification on the matter saying that the highway was at risk of accidents.
When the minister attributed the delay in implementation to lack of land acquisition by the previous government, BRS MLA Savita Reddy said that Rs 130 crore had been spent on it and the alleged officials seemed to have misled the minister. Then the Minister of Roads and Buildings V. Prashanth Reddy intervened and clarified that the Detailed Project Report (DPR) was not given as the alignment was not approved.
