Brazilian legend Ronaldo is running for the presidency of the Brazilian Football Confederation

Unlike many other legends including his great friend at Real Madrid. Zinedine Zidane, Ronaldo was away from the game except for a brief stint as a media pundit. But the veteran forward is aiming to become the president of his country’s football federation.

Ronaldo wrote on Instagram: ‘I cannot return to the field after many of you asked me to. “And, honestly, I don’t think our biggest defeats in recent years were inside the four lines. They weren’t television. We have to look outside the spotlight. It’s in the organization,” he said.

“My motivations for this candidacy are countless and perhaps the biggest of them is to believe that I can contribute to regaining the respect of Brazilian football,” he added. Since winning the 2002 World Cup, their fifth—Ronaldo was a star and Golden Boot winner—Brazil have stumbled into the knockouts, their title drought infuriating feverish fans and exasperating coaches.

As part of his ambition, he said he envisions traveling around his country. “I am going to travel to all corners of Brazil, to listen to all those people and to present to the Federation an unprecedented private investment project for the sustainable development of sports in every state of the country. Continue to generate business, jobs and entertainment with innovation. In the new time our Rebuilding the credibility of the top body of Brazilian football with the old passion,” said the two-time Ballon d’Or winner.

As part of the candidacy, he is busy selling his stake in several clubs, including La Liga side Real Valladolid, national daily O’Globo reported. “It will not affect my candidacy,” he said.
